Rance, when you travel to Sweden, what kind of a bag do you use? I want to get a new travel backpack for my trip. Since you travel alot, I was wondering what you had. That goes for you too, Cobolt. I normally take a wheeled duffle bag with me, but it is huge and I don't feel like lugging it across Europe.

I have a NorthFace day pack I carry on. Holds my camera case, shaving kit, a change of clothes and some other odds and ends. Then I have smallish Swiss Army suitcase with wheels and the telescoping handle which I stuff with candy, pancake mix, cheesecake, pistachio pudding and other various goodies like clothes, tripod, and stuff, which I check as baggage. I can put the pack on the roller suitcae and drag them anywhere.

I have already begun one thread...but I will say hello here as well, don't mind my barging in. For all of you in the Fairbanks area - it looks as though the Aurorae are already beginning for you...faint streaks for the now. SALMON:live:Aurora Web Camera

Not a chance of seeing them this night in Wyoming...bloody winds and clouds. Happy viewing!

Don't even say the word aurora to me. That damn thing is the bane of my existance. A friend and I sat outside for three hours last night waiting to see something... anything. Frankly, I'm surprised she's even still talking to me.

That bane is my obsession LOL. We aren't graced with them often in this part of Wyoming...but I was determined to WILL them into play. I spent most of the night with teeth chattering, keeping camera batteries warm...pleading with the Aurorae gods for anything a few weeks ago. Annnnnd.....voila:

Certainly not what Alaska has..but an adequate show for here. I don't believe they will appear much south of Fairbanks this night My apologies.

Well, we'll see. This time I've lodged myself where there's not so much light pollution, and am keeping an eye on the UAF GI page so I can step out on the deck if it creeps this far south.

The best display I ever saw was in [Northern] Idaho, by the way, so don't rule yourself out down there in Wyoming...

I used to live in the NE portion of the state and the shows were far better and a wee bit more frequent than here in the central part. Problem here is the mountain sits south of the town...a lot of light pollution, so one must venture out of town. Last time I went, my son and the Bug (Papillon pup) were not impressed and ended up falling asleep in the back of the truck. We are lucky if we can see them once a year here.

I wish you luck of it...So far the Kp indices are at 3 and the aurora oval isn't as pronounced as last eve's. But...looking on that webcam, the activity seems to be increasing. Have you the camera ready??
