Yikes, this one picked up a bit!

The US isn't perfect by a long shot. But it's a darn sight better than most of the rest of the the world.
Good, decent people sacrificed everything defending our rights and freedoms. It really gets my goat when others who never donned a military uniform pee and moan about how little freedom they have. If they want to experience real oppression they should move to the middle east someplace.
I served in the Military and I consider it to have been a privilige, not a sacrifice.
America has become a land of pissers and moaners and spoiled rotten little children.
Somehow I had the impression that Alaskans were of the conservative, nationalistic, pioneer, self sufficient types, and not a bunch of whiny liberals who like nothing more than to bellyache about how bad off they have it.
I hope I'm not wrong.

Instead of typing out everything I need to say, I'll just say that I second karfar.
You have the wrong idea about liberals, mister. We're not whiny, we simply realize that the US has some serious flaws that need to be fixed. It's called being progressive.

Oh please! Let's review:
You mentioned on a thread about Bethel that you're very religious. So I asked you an honest question that I hoped would spark an intelligent conversation. Instead, you preached to me.
Later, you dug up an old thread so you could verbally abuse me, call me a pathetic ingrate.
Which one of us is spoiling for a conflict here?

Hmm, you misunderstand. I'm a civil rights activist for gay rights. I happen to know that the people I am championing for want the rights because I am one of them. 'Nuff said.

Dude/dudette.....where you got all that and how it applies to my post is a stretch beyond imagination.
Just so you'll know, most middle eastern countries have little or no gun control laws. Yet, as as societies they are truly fascist, totalitarian and oppressive. Ironically, it's the US presence in Iraq that has been the first regulatory body with regard to firearms in the modern history of the country.
You have missed my point entirely, being too focused on arguing than to even make a token effort to understand.
I've invested far too many keystrokes as it is.
It's good that I'm not as narrowminded as several of you have implied. Otherwise I might be tempted to think the cerebral fortitude of all Alaskans is represented by what I have seen here.

No, no, no. Your response to every post that challenges your position is that we're not getting the point.
The fact remains that unless you are a straight white Christian male, which I believe you are, Jeff, then you are a second class citizen in this country. You can obfuscate that any way you want, and you can deny it until you are blue in the face, but it is true.
Now, we have two options. We can keep the status quo and watch while the other countries leave us in the dirt. Or, we can start making a change.
It's these hyper-patriotic people who refuse to budge one iota in this belief that America is perfect as is that are keeping us from actually becoming perfect.
As for Alaskans and their "cerebral fortitude"- what you're seeing here is fairly representative of what you're going to get. Sure there are some hyper-patriotic, jingoist people who think america can do no wrong, but what was it Warpt said about them?
