Default Good to know...

Rance,
So, how about the growing season up there? I sure would miss fresh tomatoes/onions/jalapenos for pico de gallo...one could use a home greenhouse, I suppose...We have a short growing season here, I can only imagine it would be even shorter there.

Yes it's short. Many do use a green house. My Dad had great luck growing jalepenos in a 5 gallon bucket indoors. Onions do well in my neck of the woods. And tomatoes do great in a green house. There are apple trees here that get fruit. But I've seen nothing else like pear or plum work. Sweet corn does not work but spuds, green beans, peas, carrots, radish, brussel sprouts all do good.

Why does the school see a one-year project as a must? I am going out of my mind right now trying to get it to work! (I was left in the cold by my "former" group members, so I have to do it all on my own, oh my...) I'm going to be in charge of some practical experiments on Friday with my classmates and others as "guinea pigs"! I'd prefer to call them "Lab rats", but maybe I shouldn't tell them that...

Let's all take a big breath of fresh air... that's right, breathe iiiin... aaaand slooowly let it aaaall oooout... aaaand iiiin.... aaand ooout... There you go, feeling any better?

Rance, let's just hope there's no one from US customs on this forum! And why do YOU have leaves when I don't? So unfair... and it's practically SPRING TIME here! (They said on the radio that by the definition, it's actually spring in southern Sweden right now, but since SMHI, the Swedish meteorological institute, has decided that it cannot be spring time in southern Sweden until late February, it's still going to be called winter. You talk about global warming- just come here! I hate it!)

Yes, I'm a bit stressed up. Does it really show?

Karla, please feel free to come over any time. I've managed to keep the juniper alive, but I killed the fern. I always do the opposite otherwise...

Xa'at, they're all absolutely beautiful, but... number 5, that's all I'm saying...

Ranceo, can I come back tomorrow? Johan just slammed the door downstairs, so I'm guessing he's not happy that I'm still up... It's almost half past eleven, oops...

Hopefully you won't get too fed up with my questions...(fingers crossed), but I'll probably ask as long as you're willing to answer, so let me know when you're coming to the end of your fuse...
Length of growing season? When the winter dark starts/ends? When does the 24 hr. light start/end?
I'll stop with that for today. Will probably check back after supper. Don't know for sure, have dial up at home (sucks), been talking to you from work. If not, I'll check back tomorrow morning.
Thanks so much for all of your info and help. It's greatly appreciated!

So I had some spare time today, and I decided that there is a revolution going on in the world and I'm gonna join it. So I made myself a blog.
It's called Didn't Juneau? : Life in Alaska's Capital City, and I think you guys will probably enjoy it. Just my day to day commentary on our crazy way of life and why we love it so much.

It doesn't. Kenai is way too far south to have 24 hours of light or dark.
