Oooh, I see. A young teenager, in other words. I've raised 2, and still have a 15 year old to get past a certain point. Personally, I found that each of them become feral jerks around 13-14. I think they should spend a couple-three years living in a wolf pack until they become reasoning human beings again.

Jenny disagrees. She thinks that love and kindness work. I would prefer the flat of the hand to the back of the head and repeat as needed. She thinks I'll scramble their brains. I think their brains are already scrambled, and this may knock a few neurons into proper orbit around the cerebellum.

Yeah, I am probably too screwed up to be a parent. But at least I'd feel better.

Actually, he's 18, the youngest, and going away to college next fall. He thinks he's smart and knows most everything. The problem is that he is smart, smarter than me in any case. His team recently won a science competition.

My wife is the same way as your wife, won't even let me say I told you so because it won't change anything after the fact. I think it at least helps them remember the learning experience their mistakes give them. He's actually a good kid and would never intentionally do anything wrong.

My children lived in college dorm rooms more than 20 years ago, and I assure you that at UAF they 1) did not assign co-ed rooms, but 2) a large percentage of the rooms were in fact co-ed by the second week or so of the year. UAF had no problem at all with people simply trading rooms on an informal basis, so it would take a week or two for all the trading to work it out so that couples could share the same room.

Definitely not easing my worries.

He decided that UAF would be too cold and didn't have his area of interest anyway. It looks like UAA or a school south. UAS was out because he wasn't going to live at home.

All of my kids are actually pretty well behaved, but there come those moments when you say something along the lines of "Whoa, hold on a minute there, what do you think your doing (going out the door on a school night, arranging a ride for his friends with YOU, etc, etc)?" The list of minor infractions are endless, but it's not only old ground covered from the time he could hear "NO!" at about 18 months, but tired ground. It's been gone over so many times that there are tracks running from one old position to the next. All of the arguments are repeats of the ones you've had with the older ones.

You guys know what I'm talking about. I'll bet you could sing along with the words, and I would bet money every parent could at least hum a few bars.

My 16 year old beloved offspring just rang his first girl last eve...I am of mixed feelings on that one. Not to mention he is using his guitar skills at lunch-time (sitting in a corner, epitomizing the wounded soul-artist) and now the current count is 5 female groupies.
Sigh. It plays havoc on his mother's heart!

It may tug on the strings, but be glad he shares that with you

My almost 27 'boy' (birthday 2-27 also) just yahoo'd me today from Korea to tell me he had to re-enlist again, but wanted me to know before he went to do it....It is nice that they do still think about mom even as they get older and on their own...
