Not when I looked at 10:30. It's just after 11:00pm now so it's time to get back out and check. Skies are clear though, except for a light cloud which obscured the big dipper for a few minutes earlier. Could be the wind hasn't picked up enough yet so the conditions on the ground are still fairly nice. I'll bet they wait until it's blowing at least 15mph before they show.

There's got to be stuff tonight - I already went out and bought 1/2 a case of soda. Downstairs gave me some unhealthy donuts and bearclaws. I'm gonna eat them if I don't get out and stay out.

I know guys who have been there/done that, but those numbers - wow!
For quite some time, decades, now the US has incarcerated a higher percentage of its citizens than any other major country in the world. Exactly who and why is interesting to look at... and "illegal" drug use is the major factor.

Essentially of a bunch of old alkies have decided to put anyone who is intoxicated with anything else in a jail. Not for acts that harm their neighbors, but for using the wrong drugs.

You have to admit some towns are completely over run with things like dreaded meth. Just had a conversation with two co-workers. One from Louisiana, one from Oklahoma. Both say there are towns in both those states that are completely gone to hell in a hand basket. To the point if your stuff isn't anchored down or tethered to a logging chain it disappears overnight due to theives running off with anything and everything they can sell for drugs.
I've never been to Hawaii but I think they had a serious problem with a product known as ice not to long ago. Pretty sad state of affairs some of this country is in.

Rance both you & Floyd have nailed the problem on the head. There needs to be a re-classification of "illegal" drugs in this country. Marijuana, for example, should be legal & taxed. Meth & other harmful synthetics should have draconian penalties.

Yep it's the drugs.

Right Rance, Hawaii did and still does have a big problem with 'ice' also known as 'batu' which is crystal meth.

If somebody offers you 'pakalolo' you're being offered marijuana.
Hawaiian: paka (tobacco) + lolo (numbing, crazy, stupid).
Rough translation would be 'crazy tobacco'

Hawaii has it's own words for a whole bunch of stuff.

This is mostly due to the great influence of the Hawaiian culture and other multi-cultural influences. Though Japanese make up the largest percentage of ethnicity in Hawaii (just under 25%) there really is no majority, in effect everyone there is a minority. Wasn't always that way but in the last 20 years or so that's how it's become. Though if you grouped all asians into one basket that would be over 50% of the population.

There are a couple of bills in the legislature to lessen the criminal offense for possession and use. Though the general thinking is they won't make it through this time around.

House Bill 1192, which makes the possession of less than an ounce of marijuana a civil offense, subject to a $100 fine.

House Bill 1193, would make laws relating to marijuana the lowest law enforcement priority. The language of the bill is similar to an ordinance that Hawaii County voters passed in the last election.

But as the economy tightens and money to prosecute and house prisoners gets harder to come by - they will have a greater chance of making it through.

Hawaii has always been many months behind the national economy. The current economic crises took a little longer to settle in which prompted certain political officials (the mayor of Honolulu is a prime example) to make some pretty ridiculous statements about the state of the economy. That is until it hit like a ton of bricks and the snowball started to roll. Things changed as business after business - both big and small went under, and unemployment started to increase, though it is still quite a bit below the national average. But then again Hawaii's still behind the rest of the US in the economic crisis and will eventually catch up.

Oh well I guess I'm just ranting and have really gotten off course.
