Yes, I will. Do I think the government should pay for that stuff? No. But you know what? I guarantee every single other candidate is doing it too.

god, who cares about the Clintons? I'm not voting for her, simply because her foreign policy ideas seem about as bad as Bush's.

But complaining about how comparatively rich other people are does nothing to ameliorate one's own situation.

Anyway, no national Democrat has taken the state since.... when? Long before I was born, anyway!

Hmmm. We worry a bit about the short-term economy here, especially the housing market. My husband may get orders to move elsewhere this coming summer, and we'll have to sell our house if he does. Luckily, we're on the north side of Fbnx, which seems to still be selling well. Things just sit on the market longer than they did a few years back.

Other than that, I have few worries. I buy flour and beans in bulk, keep a veggie garden, raise chickens, sew my own clothing.

I could work evenings and weekends to boost our income, but that would be a last resort... my place is really at home with husband and children. We'd probably rely more on wood heat than we have this winter, keep the house cooler, bundle the kids into shared beds for warmth.

Like our great-grandparents, we're just too stubborn to die. LOL.

Imagine that, indeed...

After 7 years of nothing but happy talk, loads of denial, increased deregulation and creation out of whole cloth one’s own version of reality,

...all that and more, and it really does have real world consequences.

Who'd have guessed that....

The current administration's monetary and economic policies have, through tax cuts to the wealthy, given away as 'gifts' what was once a surplus, and have left the rest of us with hitherto unheard of historic levels of massive debt in the way of a runaway national deficit.

Their 'theory' that the magic of privatization and their version of 'free markets' has allowed deregulation to gift us with a housing market that is ruining investments of people who never 'played the housing market'.

They told us to go shopping when they should have urged us to save, now, with a negative savings rate, we stand on the edge of the cliff together with the financial sector and the stores as the savings are gone, and we realize we're not likely to borrow more money to keep shopping.

They think nothing of the trillions they've gifted to the war profiteers, they're even paying the salaries of the mercenaries from the same pocket they bribe the enemy insurgents. Our pocket, your pocket, my pocket.

They believe you and I should borrow against the future to fund their greed today, a strategy that has left international investors with the correct perspective that our dollar has no value as 'futures'. Your dollar today is about as popular in the world of international investors as the ruble was during the fall of the Soviet Union.

But you needn't worry, their 'spokesman' is still praising the amazing success of their plan, they're even promising to slip you a couple more hundred if you'll just keep still and quit fidgeting in your chair.

Oh, and that plan to slip you a little money?

It's exactly like all their other plans, ....while you get your paltry token, they're giving again, a much larger percentage to those who need it the least.

So sit still children, they're not quite done with their serious 'adult' conversation. You just keep mum, until these 'grownups' can 'finish their business'. They're not done wringing the Treasury dry.

Get Real: Bush Economic Proposals Are All Wrong

While some few of us might hunker down in a bunker hoping to ride out a little 'unpleasantness', the vast majority of our nation's citizens are going to be redefining what unpleasant really means, ....and our children, and their children, are going to be paying for it their entire lives.

The phrase we used to chuckle at, "It's the economy, stupid.", has now morphed into:

"It's the stoopid's economy."

It's not a laughing matter anymore.......
{Recovers from bout of laughter} That website you cited is one of those insane "progressive" nutball sites that don't have a shred of credibility. You might have well used Ralph Nader as a source lol. Don't listen to those garbage sites. They wouldn't know a fact if it hit them in the head. With them, ideology trumps facts and reality. Just thought you oughta know.

The Clintons charge the Federal government $10,000 monthly rent for the use of that extra residence, which is about equal to their mortgage payment. This means that we, the taxpayers, are paying the Clinton's salary, mortgage, transportation, safety and security, as well as the salaries for their 12 man staff -- and, this is all perfectly legal!

As she runs for President, will YOU vote for her?
When hell freezes over. You couldn't pay me to vote for that lying left-wing slimebag. I'd vote for Huckabee if he had a chance at the nomination but I'll probably have to settle for McCain. Heck, part of the reason that the wife and I are moving to AK in the coming months is to get away from the idiocy of contemporary urban liberalism.

Like taxes? Want to put a smile on the face of every terrorist? Vote Democrat!

But, seriously, enough politics. The crap I cited above was so far divorced from the truth that I just had to respond to it.

Any good tips on the best way to ship our stuff north? The wife and I plan on moving to the Wasilla area in the coming months. We're both PA natives and have lived here in the socialist republic of CA for less than a year so the cold won't exactly come as a shock. We plan on cutting down on our household goods and will pay a bit for convenience but are still looking for input. Yes, I know that there is information strewn throughout the 37 pages of threads in this forum but I don't have the time to dig through every last one of them. Any advice would be seriously appreciated.

Keep in mind the Strykers will be deployed again in Sept or Oct. the housing marker will most likely take a dip when they go and family decideds to move south while the SO is deployed. This town dried up a bit when all the young GIs left. All the fast food joints really hurt for business. Construction on base is slowing down also, all the schools should be up to snuff so unless the private sector keeps building there will be layoffs. Comercial space appears to be over built. The little guys are going or gone out of business. Watch what the houseing market does this spring. There is more military housing comming on line soon too. I am not sure how many more troops are expected but there are a couple or barrach projects bidding so they are expecting more, but seem to be replacing old buildings too.

There are several methods of shipping depending on your situation. If you are going to drive anyway and don't have a lot of stuff you can get a trailer and pull it up.

Or you can rent a Uhaul truck and drive it up. One drive the U-haul and one drive your car.

Or you can call around and someone will deliver a storage van to your door and leave it . You load it and they come back and pick it up and ship it. You have it delivered to your house when you get here.

Or you can call a moving company and they will come and pack you up and move it.

There are other options and there are certain logistics involved in each option.

BTW...another Huckabee fan here. Not that he has a chance.

We've looked at U-Pack and it seems to be pretty reasonable. And yeah, I like Huckabee also but he doesn't have the funds and the media would absolutely savage him.

Uhaul to or from he west coast will run about about $1500-$1800 for the largest size truck rental. The problem is gas, they only get 6 mpg! So tack another $1200 or so for gas.
