I've searched and read several threads...but can't seem to find a straight answer...
Exactly how long is the commute from Wasilla to Anchorage? My husband is in the application process for work up there and I'm not finding rent in Anchorage that would be in our price range ![]() If the drive is outrageous I guess we'd have to suck it up and fork over more $ to keep our two kids in a good neighborhood. We really wanted to find a cheap rental (not in the ghetto though) so we could save up more for a down payment later. Any suggestions? BTW...I have really enjoyed the Anchorage and Alaska Forums...I really hope the job comes through...we're both so looking forward to leaving TX and getting to the cold! Thanks |

Keep in mind, this is just my opinion, but Anchorage is a virtual cesspool in my opinion. The commute from Wasilla is well worth the effort.
From the outer edge nearest Anchorage it will run about 50-60 minutes each way, if you live up KGB or out on the far side of Wasilla, 60-90 minutes, each way. |

Wow!! Unfortunately Wasilla is not an option for us...no way will he drive an hour...can't say I blame him.
Thank you for your reply...will have to see what comes available. Can anyone recommend a good apartment to check out? We'd like to stay under $1200...but can go up to $1500 if need be. I saw the apartment review site some of them had good reviews..specifically Pier 26, however if anyone knows of other apartments that are nice/reasonable rent and not in trashy neighborhoods I'd really appreciate the info. If not, we'll just have to sort through it all when he goes up for the final appl. processing. Thanks again |

Have you checked Eagle River which is closer? Or Girdwood to the south? Maybe Chugiak or Peters Creek to the north?

Look on craigslist for rentals. It has the best selection. I think $1,200 should get you a good rental.
