If'n there are such folks as those that can sit and talk religion or politics...I don't know any of them. I'm not trying to be snotty or speak for anyone. You may even find someone on this board who likes that kind of thing. Might be why I spend most of my free time out on the lake or in the woods. I'm not much into idle chat and associate with those that are kind of the same. If I do sit and talk for an hour it's usually at the local bar with one of the oldtimers that homesteaded in the area. I can never get tired of the stories they tell. And you'd be surprised at what buying one of those guys a beer will get you in true life adventure stories.
Just trying to be neighborly!

I stand with Rance. I have my own beliefs, and tout them to no one, as it is none of their business, and theirs are none of mine. I like my neighbors, and think that they are pretty nice folks. It has nothing to do with beliefs or political affiliations and everything to do with friendliness. I have raised my kids with a skepticism that I consider to be healthy, towards government, religion and intolerant behavior. I tell my boys to check out the women they date in their interactions with family, elders and strangers. If they are uniformly and consistently pleasant, they are keepers.

Hey, OP, if you're still here, I'd suggest Fairbanks or neighboring North Pole to suit your political ideals.
Plenty of like-minded folks around, though you cannot expect that the entire population of any Alaskan city will be onboard with ANY political agenda.
You'll find a ton of Ron Paul supporters around here, for instance. And yes, our conservatism tends to be more on the libertarian side than the neo-con side... I myself tend that way. (RP '08!) ( )
You keep your property and family the way you like 'em, and I'll do mine, and maybe we'll chitchat about how we do it, but not with the intent to change each other's ways.
You have to remember that we're rather geographically far removed from the Lower 48; we have our own issues. Illegal immigration is justifiably a huuuuge fricken deal elsewhere, but luckily we're too far away from the border for it to have really entered most people's daily consciousness here, for instance.
It's a bit of social faux pas here to take national politics TOO seriously, you know. But for raising a family in an environment that takes the integrity and authority of the family seriously, you can hardly beat AK.

Ah, once everyone hears my plans for a better tomorrow, no one will need a picture. Besides, I'd make a showing at the inaugeration, and during my duties as president afterwards, so...

Ues, but how would we know the other parties hadn't pulled the old switcharoo and kidnapted you and replaced you with an imposter?

Well Fairbanks does have the Catholic schools of Fairbanks a private school. There are also several Christian private schools here along with a Monitsori. You have options.
