Default Ketchikan, Taxi or public transport to sites

My wife & I will be in Ketchikan as a stop on a cruise in June ‘08. We’re not really pre-paid tour kind of folks and like to move at our own pace.
We’re hoping to visit the Deer Mtn Tribal Hatchery & Eagle Center, the Totem Heritage Center, and Totem Bight State Park Is it possible to take cabs from place to place and then back to Creek St and the docks? If not can we take public transportation to any of these spots? Thanks you so much ahead of time for your responses. We’re so excited to visit Alaska. Pat & Judith –Warne, NC

Get a copy of the bus schedule. It runs all the way out to Saxman and to Totem Bight.
The Deer Mountain hatchery you can walk to. Look up Ketchikan Gateway Borough for the schedule. Also, plenty of taxi's that will take you anywhere you want to go. If you have any questions look for me on the dock during June, July and August. I usually wear a white baseball cap.

Not sure if the OP is still paying attention to this thread, but I think it's worth noting that Creek Street and the docks are not in the same place. When you see pictures they often make it look like creek street is right there next to the docks, but it is actually kind of tucked away right next to the mountain, Deer Mountain if I recall correctly. It's not too far, maybe a five minute walk, though.

Creek Street

The Docks

Ketchikan is a cool city, when it doesnt rain.

It gets old after a while though according to my dad who is down there right with the Fairweather waiting for some bolts to get in from Germany.

I liked it. It was very quiet, but there were people. I had breakfast at the Pioneer Café- excellent French toast! The walk from the ferry terminal to downtown is also quite nice, if you can stand all the cars spraying mud all over you as they drive past!
I thought it was cute how there were murals drawn by the local kids as boards over the doors and windows of one of the jewelry shops...

The murals are supposed to make you think downtown is a lively place year round. I guess the Pioneer isn't too bad. I wouldn't suggest it late at night tough. Nor would I ever suggest Chico's Fine Mexican Food either.

The only place I go to in Ketchikan anymore is the float plane dock and the Landing. I'm gonna spend a couple days there this next trip though.
