Hi everyone !
![]() So then first up im a new member and the reason i have joined is to ask for help !...so whats new right ? Im going to cut a long story very short so i dont bore the pants off you all, and bottom line is, I would like to come to Alaska and work for someone in a good quality race kennel, one that will allow me to learn the ropes and eventually race for them. Im 45 years young, in great shape, not averse to hard work and obviously love the outdoors, happy in my own company, great in the company of others, a seeker of adventure that wishes he had wised up about 15 years ago, but hey, never too late right ?..or i hope not ! Im not looking for wages, a place to lay my head, feed my stomach and learn how to race sled dogs, my ambition is a crack at Quest, Iditarod or some other equally challenging race, just been watching the K300, some awesome photos, set my heart racing. Any relevant advice greatly appreciated. Thank you. Craig. ![]() |

All you need to do is get on the phone. Get the list of people signed up for the Quest or Iditarod and start calling.
Try to focus on people that have placed in the top 10-20 in the Iditarod. You will eventually network enough to find a place. If you are willing to work hard you will get in. Way back in my younger days I dreamt about the Iditarod. But I stopped dreaming long before I was 45 We follow the race as a family every year with each choosing their personal top ten. Then we go out to cold stone creamery and the winner gets their pick. That's our only visit to an ice cream place for the year. |

Looks like quite the marathon. I don't think you need a dog team if you can run that one.
Run the race and after you recuperate go over to Alaska and call up some of the mushers. You will line up a job. |

Not sure if it's kosher or not (posting other sites--I'm not affiliated with this site), but handler jobs are often posted here:
Sled Dog Central: Classified Ad Index - Wanted There are several top notch Alaskan teams looking for help--sprint and distance. |
