Woke up to pretty heavy smoke in Big Lake this morning after not sleeping very well. I'll be spending the evening getting all my important things gathered just in case we have to evacuate. I know there are at least a few other posters in the area; hope you are all safe and as prepared as you can be.

Great, now we have a fire in Sterling. Folks are evacuating Feuding Lane and surrounding residential areas. This could get ugly fast with a good portion of our support up fighting the Willow fire.

About 4 miles as the crow flies. One of my co-workers home is very near the fire. Him and family were evacuated at 2:30 AM this morning due to change in wind direction. Here is cool shot, looking east from west, over Sterling yesterday. Moose River in the foreground, Skilak Lake in the background. If the wind starts blowing from the east to west...Sterling town could be in trouble. Our house is just above Moose River, but lots of woods between us and the fire if it jumps the highway.

I'm at work down between Clam Gulch and Ninilchik. The wife is up in the valley helping numerous friends pack and evacuate the last 3 days. I have neighbors that will alert me to wind change etc and if need be I'll make a mad dash for the house to set up sprinklers and grab important paperwork etc. We have a very large yard around the house with metal roof and stone covered exterior walls. So we might just be ok even if the fire does come our way.
