Only if you can cultivate the land, fish, and hunt nearby. Otherwise you still need to buy stuff from the store.

If the stock market crashes, then goods will be cheaper since less people will have money to buy. Competition will then bring prices down. But, of course, if U are so certain the market will crash, then short the h--l out of the big movers. Certainly, the very least, buy a big batch of puts in the option market. Or, just stick your bundle under your mattress and wait for a bullish day. I wish I could predict the market, no insult intended.

If thats a fact...I guess we'd better close the gates and lock em. Those of us that are already here will need our resources to survive!

Financial Armageddon? Please. Maybe for all those fancy schmancy stock market folks.
I work for a university, I don't own stock, and the only relationship I have with my bank is a checking account. I think that I, along with most of us, will survive. Besides, it wouldn't be so bad if all the money just... *poof!* Might teach us a lesson.
In any case, haven't the doomsayers been talking about this stuff for years and years? It hasn't happened yet, so I'm not going to worry my pretty head over something I can't change, and you'd be advised to do the same, man.

Not that easy in Alaska where farming is done during the summer, and where the winters are long. Well, most of Alaska I should have said. In here most produce is brought-in from the lower-48, and so lumber and other construction materials. Not only that, but every major store in Fairbanks ship huge amounts of products to the bush. In a depressed economy, not only small stores have to close their doors, but those big ones I have mentioned. All shippers have to reduce the number of trips, specially those to the bush. The shipment to Alaska would also be accordingly reduced in number. At the same time, there would be more oil and mineral extraction in Alaska, mostly controlled by the Federal Government. Food would be rationed, specially in the cities away from arable lands. Lots of people will find it easier to survive by moving with their families in the lower-48, since it's very difficult to heat a home mostly with firewood.

Do I believe that it will be that bad? No in a million years. It could turn into a slow economy for a few months, but that's not a depression. I completely agree with Xa'at.

Thanks Xa for the heads up 'be advised to 'chill out'.
The odds of a full blown deppresion Id guess at 10%.
Tho the fundamentals of the US economic situation are horrendous.

70% of US economic activity is basically spoiled Americans buying junk at China-Mart provided from slave labor wage earners in foreign lands.... I find that utterly shamefull and disgusting--- The thought of it makes me feel like a pimp. And now we have to listen to the total/utter/B.S. by these crack dealer Prez, candidates.

The lies, corruption , debautory , malfesance , moral decay in the USA is unprecedented... my gut says somethings up..

So why get involved? A lot of folks are gonna need help and I dont want to be one of them but one that has answers for others.

'when hunted , become the hunter'

Rescession or not, life will still go on tomorrow. It will still be cold in Bettles on Friday. In the big scheme of things I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about it. Work more, save more, spend less.

agreed. Dont become part of the problem: obsessive buying, collecting, spending, a bunch of crap that doesn't mean a hill of beans. Work more, save more, spend less. Priceless.
