I second Fairbanks. Ketchikan isn't on the road system. Well, I guess if you consider the Alaska Marine Highway an actual highway...then sure it is, lol.

Thanks for the tips guys and gals.

I like Fairbanks idea . I spent a winter there and its so darn cold--- Im kinda envious of the Peninisula for there mild winters.

I read somewhere that the pipeline was designed to hold 3 pipes and also that the state is looking into funding it anyway without the Fed help.

I like the Palmer comunity, but its right in the cluster.

Looks like they are now kicking around utilizing an exsisting pipeline, to tie into coming out of Canada. Seems it may have empty space in the future. This could save a bunch of money if the powers that be can work something out. I have enclosed a link to the Alaskan Petroleum News in PDF format. The link will be good for one week. Feel free to open or download a copy, and you will find some info on page one continued on page 25. Looks like they are also looking at routing along the Alcan and are checking geology etc along that route. Hope this provides some info to any questions about the gas line.

And some more petroleum info also in PDF:

Seems to me like "the biggest town/best comunity ( where people are responsible) with most services but is well away from the valley rushhour and lower48 mentality" pretty much requires being off the road system.

I just added a second download. Not sure if it gives any more info...but I did see the word legislature and a handfull of pictures of guys I believe are involved with the political side of things. These links are both good for one week. I also have the North of 60 Mining News if anyone wants a copy. Just let me know. Contains the latest mining news and various other info pertaining to such.

There's Homer and Kenai and Seward and Valdez, but they aren't exactly big. They are on the road system, though, as long as Alyeska co-operates and there aren't any avalanches.

I'm not so sure it's a lower 48 mentality - I think people who don't live in AK just naturally lose their minds when they get off the plane. Remember the tourist who climbed into Binky's pen to get a picture? Or the tourist who got between Mama Moose and Baby Moose? Or those poor idiots who ignored the DO NOT WALK ON THE MUDFLATS sign on lower Cook Inlet? Hell of a way to end a honeymoon, watching your wife drown because no one could get her unstuck before the tide came in.
