The police are very corrupt. I heard they collect protection money at the ferry terminal as newcomers are getting off the boat. The neat thing about Wrangel is that it's a short boat ride away from Anan Creek. Awesome bear viewing in the summer. I could spend the whole week out there.

I lived in Wrangell for a year. Beautiful forest all spooky and mossy. Nice waterfalls (rainbow falls), nice beach 5 miles out of town, couple nice bars, good dungee crab in the harbor, and what I believe they called an accustica? Like a big foot only smaller. This was back in 1979. May have changed some.

Seems like the ferries always arrive in Wrangell after the sun has gone down... so I've never really seen it.
But! Last time I was there, I walked around downtown. It was probably six or seven at night on a Sunday night. Two things were open: the ice cream parlor and the bar.
Parlor was packed, not a soul in the bar.
