On a different note. As a native of western PA, I'm used to and actually love a strong thunderstorm. I enjoy sitting back, watching the clouds boil, and then having the ground shake as a meteorological monster rolls through the area. Does AK get many good T-storms?

It didn't used to, but in the past twenty years or so, what with global warming and all, it can get some good lightening storms.

We get boomers & shakers through here every once in awhile. I don't think there have been any this year but my recollections are somewhat vague...

That's surprising. I figured that with the air coming in off of the water to the west and any conflicting flows from the north-east that there may be some good T-storms. I love a good blaster where the house shakes.

Small price to pay. I've seen precisely 10 minutes of a T-storm since August 1, 2007 here in San Jose. I can't begin to tell you how much I hate this area. The fact that 40%(Latino-Chinese-Vietnamese) of the population doesn't speak English should be a tip-off. And my job is dependent upon selling to residential households as a corn-fed Irish-American white boy from PA.

We sold the inlaw's old home in San Jose--just off Blossom Hill Road---to a nice Korean couple.
