Give me your knowledge of Alaska, Please
I am thinking of going to Alaska for the summer(June thru August)
I teach in another state and have the summer off.
I am thinking of finding a temp job for the summer in Alaska.
I have always been intrigued by Alaska, never been there.
Any advice on a particular place(town) to go and why?
What area would be hopeful of finding temp work, I am not fussy about what kind of work.
I love the outdoors, I hike, camp, horseback ride, etc.
Thanks!

No Brainer, fly to Fairbanks, go to College area and rent a room somewhere . Go thru the ads in the paper for a quicky job. You can go to all the roadhouses and festivals etc and meet tons of people , play volleyball at 2 in the am drunk , and then on your days off do Denali, fly on the local airline to a bushtown for the weekend.
And use the bus and buy a bike will take you everywhere.

Ketchikan. The number one place in the summer for jobs. That is summer jobs. Start applying now as they are already starting to take applications. My sophomore college daughter has already started sending out resumes. She worked for the lumberjack show last summer and is looking for something less chessy....

This person has a career as a teacher and a job is low on the priority list.
As a first trip to get to know 'The Big Land' go to the SE for the summer?
Stuck in Ketch?, 400 miles and 700$ roundtrip to Denali?
Whats left of the real alaska will be found in the interior.

Alaska Job Center Network
I suggest browsing through the older threads if you'd like info on the towns here. There are a hundred of them. And the search feature works well if you just type in a town name. You'll get all kinds of threads with all kinds of questions on all kinds of towns!

Have a look at these:
The State of Alaska (http://www.state.ak.us/local/communit.shtml - broken link)
Also look up the communities on city-data for more info. Then decide for yourself where you want to visit!

I would work at Denali National Park, one of the most beautiful places in the world!! What an experience that would be. They even have employee dorms & dining room.
