I am interested in moving to the Last Frontier but not quite sure where to start looking. Let me just say I have spent a summer AND a winter season in Healy Alaska, just to clear that up before anyone says go stay a winter. LOL. I am a plumber by trade so I could imagine work would be fairly easy to find in the right place. Will be driving from the lower 48 so please do not suggest Juneau as my car is not amphibious!
What I am looking for:
Available Job Opportunity's, commuting to work is not an issue.
Will be renting at first for a while till I get real stabilized so no crazy expensive rent!
Something a little more civilized than Healy.
Would like to stay away from Anchorage/Fairbanks if possible but would like one of them in driving distance.
Would like more of a remote area with all my necessity's/stores in driving distance. A little downtown would be nice.
Very close to all outdoor activities
Weather aspect does not bother me at all, i'll take all the snow I can get!

I have been doing research and have been seeing a lot of good about Palmer and Wasilla.
Any insight that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated, I will take any and all suggestions. Thanks!

There's a ferry to Juneau, so no need for an amphibious vehicles...
Base on your criteria, I think Palmer would be a good fit for you. Or the areas around Palmer. Sutton, the Butte, Buffalo Mine Road, Palmer-Fishhook.
