Craig and Klawock on POW both hire city cops -- maybe look up their websites and see if there are openings.

Personally I would not do a VPSO job unless I was already an established and reasonably respected member of the community. You need to know the people and be known by them, and be very familiar with local conditions and issues.

Why do I keep confusing those with regular police officers?

You shouldn't. They are more like a mother that keeps saying "you better behave or Ill call your father". They have no real power other than the respect they can get from the good people in the village.

I must be getting senile. Yeah, I know the difference, but for whatever reason, I typed village safety officer when I should have said city cop. POW has a healthy population of city cops, and of course, the troopers and halibut cops are everywhere.

Alaska guide work is heavily regulated. You should do your research with the state before you move there expecting to guide occasionally. It's not as casual in Alaska as it is in other states.

Considering how long ago the OP posted I'd bet he either gave up, tried it, changed his mind in about a year, and went back south again.
