Campmor is also a good place for discount gear. They have basically everything you need to be out in the wild

I have two North Face stories: (1) I ordered a pair of North Face insulated rain pants. They arrived while I was away one weekend, and the delivery person threw them in the yard with my dogs, who ripped open the package. By the time I got home, there were pieces of the pants all over the yard, but one leg was halfway intact, and I examined it. I couldn't believe how cheap the stuffing (the "insulation") was inside it. (2) Last June I went on a base camp trip with five other people in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. When the bush plane dropped off my group, the winds were blowing at a steady 45 mph with higher gusts (the pilot's landing and takeoff were amazing). Anyway, putting up our tents in that gale was almost impossible; all five of us combined to put up each one in turn, holding on to the fabric and poles, and weighting them down with many heavy rocks. Fortunately, of the five tents, all but one came through unscathed. But a pole broke on the one North Face tent.

There are Cabella's in the Northwest as well. They had just opened a store in Post Falls, ID before I left the area.
