Hey BTW... I saw that movie 30 days of Night. Does that really happen in Alaska?

Hopefully her airplane didn't land in Fairbanks by mistake It has been very cold up here lately, enough to scare her back to the lower-48. Not kidding!

Smile Where To Met People That You Can Trust??

dEAR Ashley If you read this site before you go out to the bars. Try going to a church event and meet people. Tell them you are seeking friendship. Your chances there is a better group of people that you can trust. Anchorage Baptist Temple has a singles group. You will be in safe hands there. God Bless

The past couple years I have been moving around meeting new people and learning new cultures. I absolutely love it!! I decided on Alaska a month ago..and of course...none of my friends wanted to go!! Im trying to find that place that really makes me happy. I grew up in ocean city, maryland.....and in the winters..its a small beach town where everyone knows your business and in the summers it is crazytown!! haha
I have alot of friends and family here....and love it..but something is misssing!! I lived in Aspen, COlorado for six months, Denver, Co for 6 months and Boulder, Colorado for 4 months. I love it there...but I want to try something new. I have heard great things about alaska and i definately want to experience it!! I have never been the hiker girl....and when we camp around here..its on a beach with a bonfire, campers or tents and wild horse s(on assateague island). I want to change that though....i have always been into sports...so i think i could handle the outdoorsy thing...without going to the extreme...I am a woman and all!!!

I am going to stay in Anchorage at first(at a B&B probably) , but I wanted suggestions!! I am a 24 yr old female moving alone...just trying to find bar or restaurant work! Girdwood and anchorage are two places so far i think i would like. I am leaving my car(so sad) and all my things(which is alot..plan on having it shipped if i want to stay permanently. should I get a truck or suv when i get out there....any suggestions on that!!

Also, best places to meet people??? I normally go to bars and meet people when i move somewhere new..but i have heard alot of sexual assaults in alaska and it kind of freaks me out! I am use to trusting everyone!!

I definately want to meet people that will show me around and get me involved in the outdoors!

Anyway..im rambling...so any help would be great~~~

Thanks,

Ashley

Default me too

hey all, i am in the same boat as this excited lady. recent college graduate and while i have never been to AK, I have wanted to live there(sure you guys have heard this line many times). I have applied to jobs in Anchorage, most of them just computer/IT related jobs. I was curious, what is the most common job in Anchorage? I understand this is a general question, but I want to live in AK for atleast a few years, and just wanted a decent paying job as I hear the cost of living is kinda high. And by decent, I mean 30,000 plus. Also, I am driving from IOWA (Go HAWKEYES!!!) and was curious, do you think my little Toyota Corolla will be able to handle the weather up there? It is in good condition and runs fine in Iowa...
Thanks in advance for any advice! Looking foreward to Alaska.

Red face duh

I guess I didn't read pages 2-5. I am from Iowa City a town of about 82000 and I wanted to live in Anchorage because I like the feel of a slightly bigger town, but the whole wilderness has a strong appeal to me. This is stuff I am bringing, what am I forgetting?
Computer, Carharts, Backpack and Camping stuff, uhm....random stuff I can't remember....

Ashley, if you log in, tell me how things are going because I am planning on moving up there around March/April.

For others: when does the tourism boom start and anyone have recommendations for cheap apartments and such? I want to beat the tourism bang so I can comfortably get settled in...if that is possible. I don't mind rooming with random people, I did it all 5 years in college (haha, depressing to think about...) but not all of it was bad, only one guy was a moron. Anyway, sorry about the rambling...I forgot my other question, which I guess is good....

Ahhh, remembered the question....
So, I read that many people that are in Alaska came from other states, and I was wondering, what state do you find the most people have come from? Also, as a 24 year old, what age are most people? I imagine its pretty diverse, but at the same time, people migrating to Ak, I imagine most are younger like Ashley and I....maybe I am wrong though...
