lsumom is on a distinguished road
Thank you Marty. I will probably be relocating to Wasilla in the summer and I have a 6th grader who is devastated that he'll be leaving football! I plan to travel up in the next month to visit the middle schools and get a feel for things. I haven't been there since 1995.

You're welcome! I just LOVE AK! I miss it although I actually only lived there a very short while... it was in my heart long before I went and remains there to this day.

I'm looking to return - maybe. I'm currently losing my job to a company going defunct and would love to go, but I have zero income to even make the trip.

After this winter, I'd love to snowbird, and... I'm considering several places. But if I go back to AK, then I'm planning on it being "for good."

What's your AK History? It seems from your posts that you might have also lived there? (But for much longer?)

Thank you, Owl!

None yet actually. I have a very dear friend who lives in the valley but I myself have never visited. I'll be disguised as a touron for part of the trip in August. My wife & I are cruising up from Vancouver to Whittier, then spending a week in the valley & Anchorage. I've been sitting here with Milepost for most of the weekend adding places to go & things to see & do. I've had to condense my planning into a smaller & smaller circle to hopefully get a good portrait of the Mat Su valley. I'm also in the beginning stages of planning a trip up in the winter next year for Iditarod & Fur Rondy.

And when I win the Powerball I'll be giving Marty a call & looking at houses. I can't wait to get up there. I already know that the worst moment is going to be getting on the plane to go back to NC. The more that I research & plan this trip the more I try to see ahead as to what sorts of jobs are available & how to convince my wife that ice & snow & limitless beauty are in our future. Things have a way of working out, in time.

Well you might see me there. I don't think she'd want to go. I'd been looking at a mushing adventure where they teach you how to mush, then you mush to a various lodges & then they fly you out to various checkpoints on the race route. My wife doesn't like the way the dogs are treated.

If you don't have the income to make the trip, you certainly won't have the income to last a winter in Ketchikan. You might want to rethink your plans of coming up in Dec. The state used to have a program where they would pay for people who get stuck to get back to the lower 48 but I'm not sure if that's still in existence.

Don't they make people break up rocks & pour cyanide over them to extract the gold?

No wonder they run away screaming or hide in fear when you hit the R forum.
