*We had a house in Corvallis we rented for 4years and never was late on rent. We decided to move to Alaska and try it out long story short it was very crappy and we flew back, currently living with my wife's parents who are both in there 80s and it's a small trailer so it's very difficult*

Very sad, but I think it's a common enough story.

I think the state should have a public service announcement that basicly says unless your rich, have a substantial family support network up here or are taking a 100k+ job just don't come. Also they need to explain that if your not native you go to the bottom of the list for any poor people bennies. Anything short is intellectually dishonest and irresponsible. The only exception would be if you are working some where for the summer and ALL expenses are covered. Companies found housing employees in something less than what guests stay in should be fined every day until it's rectified.

It should be a legal disclaimer in red letters when you go to buy a ticket or cross the boarder into Canada with intent to go to Alaska.

Even though the median income is 77k a lot of people are able to defray the cost of living through family or some other advantageous circumstance if they grew up here etc that a new comer likely won't have.

I just put it here to encourage those who want to relocate without jobs to get a better plan, especially if there are kids involved.

I read the link, I don't find it sad, except for the children.
Poor planning idiots, now kids suffering (using term loosely) due to parents being morons.

If someone helps them it's likely they shall just repeat the pattern of poor planning and silly decisions. "Hey I hear Key West is awesome and chill, let's go there!"
Cases like this, I'd give stuff the kids can use, only. I don't like rewarding stupidity.

So they couldn't manage their money, but they'll somehow do better with mine? Do I have that right?

I didn't say I found it sad, and I wasn't asking anyone to help them. I put it here so that hopefully, others who are thinking of "just hauling ass to Alaska," as another poster so eloquently put it, will stop and think twice.

Um...yeah I got that, hence my KW reference. (KW is like AK in that fools flock there on fantasy whims).
Never implied YOU said it was sad or asked peeps to help them. Was speaking generally.

They aren't asking for cash. They are looking for a place to rent for $800/month.
