I would like to suggest that Alaskans living in SE to go to Seattle, Anchorage. or Portland for medical diagnoses and treatment rather than patronizing area quacks. It's time we stopped this visiting healthcare professional nightmare. Too many of our people have died because some quack couldn't be bothered to make a real diagnosis. We've got to stop funding what are essentially (way overpaid) vacations for substandard medical personnel.

I have heard that a lot of people travel to Washington or Minnasota for medical care from Anchorage. Anchorage medical is a joke. They wanted 350 just for a office visit and then over 100$ a shot just for vaccine booster (tetnis, etc). It was going to cost me almost $1000 just to get a few shots.

A lot of people are now planning vacations with a few extra days to make dr appts.

It's still better than Fairbanks!

Some insurance plans in Alaska will pay you to go somewhere else for treatment...

And the cost of a Doctors office visit is insane in Anchorage. I can only imagine some of the other areas in the state.

It costs $350 just for an office visit in Anchorage?

I remember once when my son got bronchitis on the island, and we called 911 and got a recording.

Who diagnosed bronchitis, and why did you call 911?

There are a few decent doctors in Juneau.

We called 911 because he couldn't breathe.

The diagnosis came from the doctor who saw him that morning after my mother called the local police chief at his home to get someone to the clinic. Anyway, my point was that we got a recording when we called 911.

We live nowhere near Juneau, and it's often cheaper to fly to Seattle.

Met - Amazing.. Even more so, that there are still areas in the US without any 9-1-1 service at all. Glad your Son was OK.

Apparently there is a Doctor shortage in Anchorage so patients are being sent to Juneau and Fairbanks for treatment. Granted this is a shortage of Psych doctors and the patients are involuntarily committed.
