Yes they are. I moved from Texas to New Jersey and then brought a friend back to texas for a visit. When he went and got gas one day he pulled in and then called me after sitting at the pump for 5 minutes with no attendent coming over to fill it up. He came back to the hotel and I had to show him how to put gas in the car. He is 30 and had never put his own gas in. It was a sad day for him when he saw a little girl helping her father put gas in the SUV.

Huh?
Canada had self-service 24-hour credit card pumps before much of the US.
I remember noticing that about 14-15 years ago.

Great, ...encourage them to get rid of the checkers.

Pretty soon all the lines will still take just as long, another whole sector of employment will be gone, and we'll be doing the service work for the managers at the grocery stores too.

Just like pumping gas, it will become the new business model and we will have lost another entry level job category, ....not to mention losing more of what little service is still available.

(...speaking of 'saving time', wait til a half dozen machine challenged folks get in front of you in line, ....you'll be wondering if a checker might not speed things up.)

Kind of like supporting the big box stores, .....and then wishing the floor people knew something about the products for sale there.

Default You cannot pump your own gas here in Oregon

Greetings, I have lived here in Oregon most of my life. It's stupid but no you can't pump your own gas. I hope you enjoy it if you come down to Oregon. Alaskans are always welcome here in my book.

Driving 101 up the oregon coast line was so amazing...if I ever decided to leave alaska, id move there. There was one place around coos bay I think it was, the gas attendant was really busy and she let me do my own gas. I know she wasn't suppose to do that, but I had the feeling she did it often when a cute guy come along.

I love self-service checkout lines (never open, though, sadly) and I love self-serve gas. If I ever have to drive through Oregon, I'm filling up at the last possible exit before I cross the state line to hopefully prevent someone else pumping it.
