Re: Fairbanks or Anchorage
I don't want to be a bother to you all. But I have a question to all local Alaskans, if you had to move to Fairbanks or Anchorage, which one would you choose? I have reviewed both cities on the internet and I can't find a drawback to either one, so maybe there is someone out there that would like to take the time and give me their honest opinion. Thank you

Fairbanks is a more rugged and frontier-like, and definately much smaller. Anchorage is pretty much like any other American City it's size, though with much more beautiful scenery. The only OTHER difference between the two would be the climate... Fairbanks winters can, and usually ARe very Harsh compared to any other American City, while Anchorage could be comparable to Denver or even Seattle.
So, it depends on what you're looking for.

Thank you c.adam for your quick and helpful response. I like a good cold snap but I am from the Pacific Northwest so perhaps Anchorage is the way.
Have a great evening

Some people up here say "Anchorage is a nice place to visit, and is only a hour from Alaska". Fairbanks is a lot more rugged, and Anchorage doesn't seem as alaskan, except for the views. The tempature in Fairbanks is very cold in the winter, Anchorage is more mild, but both are really good places.

I would choose Anchorage. Fairbanks weather in the winter is extremely cold. Anchorage has more entertainment and people.

Another site to check out might be www.alaska.com for an idea of things to do around either of these places, which may or may not help your choice.

I grew up in Anchorage and can say that the people will be weird in both cities. However, in Fairbanks, they are REALLY weird. Squarebanks is what we used to call it. There is a lot of "Alaska" accessible to both cities...at least with Anchorage you are on the water and have quicker access to coastal towns on the peninsula, for a change of scenery. In Fairbanks, you are pretty much stuck there. Out in the middle, all by your lonesome. And about those harsh Fairbanks winters...there are parking lots with plug ins for your car. That right there would tell me...no way no day!

Taking a cruise to Alaska
My husband and I want to take a cruise to Alaska. What is the best time of the year to do that?
We want to see lots of animals.
