In 1989, 80 percent of the ice in the Arctic was at least 10 years old, he said. Today, only about 3 percent of the ice is that old.

The ice has been melting for quite some time. It'll take one good sized comet...or one good sized eruption, and we'll cap this rascle in a hundred foot of ice sheet all over again. So hang onto those down jackets. Eventually you'll need one!

I think I've mentioned this before, but.... I do believe it is another oncoming iceage, as I type, it is snowing again! TWICE, in one winter, what is the world coming to? Of course, the dogs are trying their best to get me outside, already two inches and more still droppings like 250,000 birds overhead. Uh, except without the associated smell of course. Perhaps that wasn't the most apt simile, but, I think you get my drift, no pun intended.

I've been thinking the same thing. I really miss a good blizzard. I guess I'm odd man out because I really enjoy shoveling snow.

....I can only wonder at what goes on to account for all these strange mental comparisons we see here from time to time,

....what must impel something like that to even come to mind?

Was there some disadvantageous incident in your childhood involving a large flock of seagulls?

Alice2 is on a distinguished road
Mine's worse. My childhood buddy, Helen, who was lucky enough to 'come to camp' with us, said once very poetically, "Rain is the angels' tears." And it ***was*** very poetic; she was only about six and I was only about four. And my mom ruined the moment, quite not on purpose or othewise, just in her nature, by saying, "And what is snow, God's poop?"

And, of course, you are right, User2, these kinesthetic messes in our adult minds come from early childhood traumas, every one.

Which explains why I never grew up to be a famous published poet, as God intended.

Back for a quick edit because I realized I just derailed a lovely topic. I actually think we are headed towards global warming, which is I believe the politically incorrect side of the fence, as usual, but I have seen our winters here get extremely mild compared to what they were when I was a middle-aged kid. So I think we're going to go through a global warming cycle before any ice-age comes upon us.
