My family is relocating with the army to the fort richardson area. Where is the best neighborhoods near the base? I'm hoping for areas with bus service(people mover), since we are selling one car here. What area would be local to the base (for husband's commute), has bus service( for myself to get to a job), and would be a nice area for the kids, ages 14, 13, and 4? Part-time employment close to bus routes. ( I don't really have a career, anything will do). I would love any help at all.......

My kids are freaking out about our upcoming move to anchorage! What's it like to be a teenager in Anchorage? Daughter is 15, son is 13. What are the kids doing around there? Skateboarding, snowboarding, skating rinks, school activities, shopping malls?

Yes, it's me again. Do the public schools in Anchorage area offer any daycare programs, etc? otherwise, do the schools offer after school care for the school age children?

Well I lived in Anchorage for a year and a half with the army. My father was stationed at Fort Richardson. Instead of living on post we decided to live in Eagle River. It is a small town only a short drive from the base. The schools are great....and there are many activities to do in the community. While i was there we had a great time and so i hope you will too!
It's not that bad you'll get used to the weather!
Best Wishes,
Katie
