Default The Yukon Quest

A little news about the Yukon Quest, which started in Fairbanks Saturday morning. I watched the mushers and dog teams as they sped through the Chena Recreation Area in North Pole shortly after 2:00 PM. I like to watch the race there, because the trail runs along the road by the flood project, so one can be close enough to take photos without disturbing the dogs. I was there for a little over an hour, and left when my camera's lens stopped focusing because of the cold, although it was around -30 degrees or so. Two years ago it was around +40, just a little too warm for the dogs.

I believe Mackey and his dog team are shown in this photo (wasn't he #11?)

Not the best of photos, but it shows the number on the sled.

Great pics Ray. I did not make it down to the North Pole area. I did stop by downtown fairbanks, but did not have my camera with me. It was pretty awesome seeing all the dogs and people down there....

Yes, it was pretty nice, although a little cold. Next year the Yukon Quest starts in Canada, and ends in Fairbanks.
