Anyone who thinks "meh" when the hit the overlook before dropping into Homer better check their pulse and make sure they still have one! It's a breathtaking view of kachemak bay.

Really? Homer is a big Meh? I think someone on CD told me it "wasn't to be missed" and by this web page it sounds amazing.

Homer is beautiful. The drive from Cooper Landing to Homer goes through mostly flat lands, but it's still interesting (at least to me). There's a few interesting stop-off points, including Kenai's Orthodox Church (~10 miles off the highway), Soldotna's Homestead Museum, Kasilof Mercantile, Ninilchik's Orthodox Church and old town, Anchor Point Beach / Anchor River State Recreation Area, Samovar Cafe in Nikolaevsk (reservations required), and Anchor Point itself has a few interesting little junk shops and a couple restaurants.

Don't forget the Sea Life center in Seward. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and depends on the weather. If it is raining cats and dogs there isn't much to see. The view overlooking Homer is fantastic on a clear day!

Homer's scenery is definitely beautiful, but in my own very subjective opinion it's not particularly uniquely so, if that makes any sense. The scenery toward Seward and through the Prince William Sound is more distinctively Alaskan to me.

My pulse is fine, thank you. It does not matter how many times I have been to Homer in the 40+ years that I have lived in Alaska, Homer is still one of the least spectacular places I have been to in Alaska, and that includes my time commercial fishing out of that port.

Many find Homer appealing, I NEVER have and many, also, do not. I truly do not find it very scenic, however, keep in mind that I have been here for 40+ years and have been to many more places than a tourist can ever go. But, between Seward and Homer it is a no brainer - Seward and the drive to it is hands down far more scenic than Homer.
What I think would really be a big payoff for you is, rather than spend the time going to Homer, spend that time taking a day cruise out of Seward, or especially Whittier into Prince William Sound. PWS is absolutely stunning!

Homer is definitely my favorite, over Seward and I think the drive to Homer is very beautiful and there are not many sights as spectacular as when the road bends and the Homer Spit is right in front of you. It's just spectacular. I also prefer the small town feel of Homer and its quirkiness over Seward, but that's just me.
