Default Caravans, et al.

I'll generally agree with you on the benefits of the PT-6, I've got a bit of time on that motor myself (Bell 212s). That said however, I'd still be happier out over the cold, dark, deep water if that Pratt had a buddy just like it on the other wing.

IMHO it's insanity for the FAA to allow scheduled air service over the Lynn canal in single-engine landplanes. To add to the insult, there's no raft, no survival suits, basically no nothing as a backup plan. They can expound and obsfucate at considerable length on "possible forced landing areas" all they want (and they do, believe me). The reality of the situation is that the terrain here consists almost entirely of either deep, cold saltwater or giant trees. The odds of an engine puking at just the right spots to hit the scattered handful of beaches (at low tide, no less) are, to put it mildly, not good. It's only a matter of time...

I'd say a KingAir is about the minimum aircraft I'd personally be comfortable in around here.

Is that ACE Air Cargo in Anchorage? Or is Alaska Central Express something else? If it's ACE, my ex works there...Gosh how weird is that?

ACE is based out of Anchorage, it is the remnants of the old Mark Air Express. They are a cargo only service and has a fleet of Beechcraft 1900Cs, which is basically a stretched version of the King Air. They've wrecked a few planes in the last 10 years, a 1900C and a Brazillia, both here on the YK Delta. On approach to JNU a few years back, they were a tad short on it and hit a tree on top of the mountains just before the runway, they lucked out and landed the plane.

Yes yes Warpt. I am quite aware of who ACE is, their aircraft, and where they are based. What I was asking was if ACE stood for Alaska Central Express or if they are two different entities.

At one time there was two ACE companies, one of them became Everts Air Cargo, the other remained the same, Alaska Central Express. The other is still called Alaska Cargo Express.

You missed it by a few years when Twotters served Haines, that was awesome

There used to be pretty regular service with Navajos/Chieftains. I dont know where they went. Oh, and you will sometimes see the lovely Islander
