Default Hello Neighbor!

Have you heard any more about the bridge idea connecting Sterling to Funny River? I have been out of town for a while and have not kept up on the local news. I am ready for Summer.

I can certainly sympathize with your feelings about SE Alaska, Urth, as I feel it isn't worth my time either. Does Sitka have a huge criminal population also? I'm on POW (not for much longer) and within a mile from where I'm at there are about 12 registered sex offenders, and in the next little town 8 miles away there's about 14 more. Then there are a bunch of other types of criminal elements. I certainly never would put a child in school here. I agree that other parts of the state are more what Alaska is really about. Sounds like you've got a nice place up there.

They would never put in a bridge that went somewhere! We've been screaming for a bridge since the late 60's. I'd really like to see one put in before I die.

Not a chance, Rance (Hmm, that rhymes. Maybe I should....) I'm back, sorry.

Rance, they will spend money on Ben Stevens' ideas in Adak, blow dough on the Knik Arm Bridge proposal, talk about completing the road through to Cordova, but in the end, we're lucky they fill the potholes on the Glenn, because half the touristas come in that way.

Default Arizona vs. Alaska

URTH Said....

"Mt. Edgecumbe High School has about 140 teens attending from other Alaskan bush communities that don’t have proper High Schools. These teens are unsupervised and many hangout around town smoking cigarettes, throwing there cigarette butts, trash and gum on the sidewalks and who knows why they spit profusely on the side walks too!"

Wow....sounds like a tidbit of a problem compared to the streets of Tucson these days! Sounds like you need reinforcements up there, instead of discouraging it

I just got back from the border along Arizona, helping you know who....and it was awesome. 8 count repatriations myself in 3 days. Going back this month.

Rotorhead....You don't suppose the natives there in your area are falling into the La Raza and La MEChA trap...are they?

Dear Sir,
My wife and I have several years of Tucson living under our belts. I have family roots in Tucson and surrounding areas as well. Also, I have worked from Phoenix for many years and lived in Mesa between the ages of 5 to15. Mesa is neck and neck with other U.S. communities for having the highest murder rate per capita, per person. In my previous career I worked continuously in all of the 48 states for about 15 years. This may give testament and creditability in formulating my opinion.
Experience and wisdom says large numbers of teens placed in a college like environment without supervision does not cultivate much positive, instead negative prevails. Sitka has the highest number of non-graduating (High School) young adults in Alaska. My concerns are; every year the number of young adults with undesirable attitudes become more like the people in the places you taunt me with. Before going on. I would like to say. I do not thrive in negative conversation. I would rather speak of good and positive. However, responding to your post in response to my post I will point out some facts. A social meltdown of our young adults is currently being experience in all of the U.S. This is a cycle stemming from the Baby Boomers Freedom Movement (BBFM). Please understand and follow what I am saying. I am specifically speaking about the lack of discipline and structure in public schools and in most American families. Parents are fearful in punishing their children because of a very high probability of being investigated by Child Protection Services and or being criminally charged by the Law. The consequences of this manifestation is enormous. Locate and access current statistics (career and financial development) on our young adults today coming into the workforce in relation to the projected economy in the next 20 years. You will clearly see the disaster is coming quickly. This data brings an overwhelming feeling of being invaded with a massive army of destruction. I am NOT opposed to the general teenage population. I am opposed to all ages of children not in a structured environment being taught respect and manners by parents and teachers.

Hi Urth,

I'm not sure the entire forum wants to hear my take on teachers and student respect...but I'd love the chance to give you some facts on what is happening to us teachers. If you'd like, you could shoot me an email

unrepentantpaddy@yahoo.com

I hear you loud and clear on the teen-age population (in general, of course!) but want you to know just how tightly teachers' hands are tied in this area. I can tell you some stuff that will blow your mind.

Thanks,
Deb
