credit card problems in the Yukon
We spent a couple days in Whitehorse right around the New Year and we did have some problems with paying by credit card for fuel. The pay-at-the-pump option wasn't working at most stations for US issued cards, we had to go inside every time whereas we didn't when we were there last Sept. The problem was mainly that the cheaper places didn't have anyone working inside on the weekends, so we couldn't get fuel there. No problems with the card for restaurants and such, only at the pumps.
Maybe they've got it fixed by now, who knows.

Is it worth it to get a Canadian card for gas then?

I always pay at the pump, and use Amex or Visa....No need for a Canadian card.

Exchange some cash before you make the trip. 1000 each way will cover food gas and lodging.

usually not a problem, but...
It's usually not a problem, but...
Don't get yourself into a situation where the ONLY option is the pay-at-the-pump setup for fuel, especially on weekends. Just plan on going in to pay every time, and keep in mind that a lot of the smaller places don't have the office open late nights and weekends.
Having some Canadian cash is always a good idea, you'll need it for restaurant meals, snacks, etc. Not to mention the way the exchange rate is going, it's a better investment all the time if you hold onto it.
