You'll have to pardon my stupidity, here, but with all the digital, wireless gobbelty-****, do rabbit ears still work?

I think I'm going to move, and if I do, I'd like to upgrade (that is a relative term) my home entertainment system (also relative). However, yet again, this address is not serviced by AT&T, GCI or ACS, and I'm waiting to hear back from AC Wireless and Tekk whatchamacallit for internet. Considering my previous experiences in this arena, I do not have high hopes.

So, right now, my "system" is a hotspot, my laptop, a crap-ton of books and music, and a bluetooth speaker. I have not owned a tv in years, but I think I'd like to have one again. So, do rabbit ears still work?? My cousin's wife told me about those Roku things, but with a hotspot, I think the internet will be way too slow, and it sounds like they use way too much data for capped plans.

Input, thoughts, ideas... ?

Any streaming device will suck and cost a crap load of money. We didn't use rabbit ears but we did use some kind of antenna that cost us like $50 that we mounted in our window. It worked great with the 1 channel we got in the village.

We do subscribe to Netflix but do the videos. While in the village we did 5 dvds at a time but now we just do two since we have more social activities to do here (really it's the two graduate classes and two kids still in diapers).

We do have a smart tv and we use some sort of external drive with our wifi router that we stream off our device. No data is being used. I'll ask the wife what it is, but I do know it is stuff we have files to. We bought it for travel and we use the iPads as tvs.

Here is one site that might help
HDTV Antennas | Outdoor HDTV Antennas | Indoor TV Antenna
and another
AntennaWeb.org
You might be able to get Fbx stations?
Rabbit ears = no, VHF bowtie = maybe

Thanks, Hj

Right.... this place is up on a hill that overlooks Nordale Flats, so I'm thinking if I put an antenna on the roof or a window, I might have some luck. No chance of that where I currently live... I'm down in a hole.

I have Amazon Prime, from which you can watch movies and tv shows. I had Hulu for a long time, until I realized that I could watch stuff on Amazon. I also rent from Blockbuster... lots of things are only $0.49 or $0.99. Once I had a movie that fell between the seats of my truck and they didn't call me for a month (!!) and I ended up with a $36 late fee. That put a damper on things. Should have just kept the movie. I'm pretty sure I rented everything the library had when I was off work for shoulder surgery last winter.

Okay, so, good to know about the streaming devices. I am curious to know what this external drive is you refer to. Do you all have real internet service, or do you use a hotspot? Did you all move to town??

My cousin's wife is always telling my niece that she can watch something "only if it's on the cloud," which is like some magical storage facility in the sky. I don't have iStuff *or* real internet, so have never paid too much attention. I guess I should start. Is this what you all do, too?

Grad school and two kids in diapers sounds like plenty of activities to me.

Huh! Says I could get up to 14 channels from 7 stations. That would be pretty nice. Neat, thanks!

Do you have line-of-sight to stations or towers?

Gotcha.

I'm down to one option on internet, besides continuing to use a hotspot for one million dollars per month. Ace Tekk. Anyone ever use them?

Are you sure you can't get AT&T service out there with a booster?
If you can AT&T will let you stream 100 direct TV channels for $35 a month. The best part is that whatever you stream isn't counted towards your data. And if you pay 3 months up front you get a free Apple TV. Not a bad deal. AT&T to launch new DirecTV Now service Nov. 30
