That trip I went alone. I'd stop at a rest area and take a nap. It was no problem. Three days to Seattle, four days in the area and 3 days back to Anchorage.

That's very gentlemanly of you! Just be warned--I have BIG hips, and I know how to swing them. You might find yourself getting a hip shove off the boardwalk!
Actually, either trip would be great. I love road trips! (Don't get many of those in Bethel, huh?!) However, I think there's a little bit of the best of both worlds in the ferry scenario.
Actually, Warptman, I think I finally figured out why you're so set on the Alcan. You are road trip deprived! The ferry isn't anything special, because you get to go on the water all the time! (Admit it, I'm right, aren't I?!) However, Bethel is definitely short of roads, especially paved ones!!!

Yup. I love road trips. I keep my truck in Wasilla. Whenever I head into Anchorage I end up driving somewhere for lunch or dinner. One time I did a round trip to Valdez for lunch, that was fun. I might be on a drive to Minnesota after I get back from Europe at the end of May and fly home, all expenses paid, gotta love that. Remember, we have the iceroad here, can drive up to Akiak and down to Napakiak.

Cobolt, looks like we're going to drive through Washington at the end of May. Rush is in concert at Ridgefield and I want to take my friends to the Raymond/Long Beach area and Ilwaco and over to Astoria. I want to show them the coast and where I went to three times now. Love that part of the state.

Warpt... Have you driven through OR, or did you drive east? If I go back to AK, it's possible I'd be driving up from TX early Dec.
Google routes up through CO, but I'm thinking that'd be terrible for driving as compared to going west through NM, AZ, and up thru CA & OR...
Or... what about driving through UT from AZ? Have you done this winters?
I don't have 4WD, and I'd be in a truck with items in the back.
Thanks!

Alcan Photos.
[quote=warptman;3002199]More reasons to drive the Alcan Highway... [quote]
Nice photos, Warpt. I was on the Alcan once but sleeping most of it, and it was chilly, snowy weather. It'd be nice to take it again sometime when it's warmer. The photo of the place where you can put a sign is great!

Just drive north and hit Highway 35 north to North Dakota and goto Winnipeg Manitoba and hang a left on the Trans Canada 1 until you hit Highway 16 and take that to Saskatoon Saskatchewan. From there stay on 16 and it'll take you to Edmonton Alberta and go west and hook up with Highway 43 and you will hit Grand Prairie Alberta. Not far from there you'll hit the start of the Alaska Highway at Dawson Creek. Just follow Highway 97, thats the Alcan until you hit Alaska.
