i'm doing San Diego to Bellingham going through Utah, then I'll take a ferry to Haines and continue driving to Anchorage, then back to southern california. I'm leaving mid April, it should take less than 3 weeks total. I'ma little worried about the the road condition in that time of the year. Can anyone help/advice?
oh yeah, i'll be riding on 2 wheels :P

Yep. Although that time of year watch for snow storms on the Haines pass. But once you get past that you should be good.

the boat arrives in Haines at around 10AM, time I get off and get ready to go it'll be 11, do you think I can make it to Tok, before sunset? are there small towns on route to fill up and get some food, or should I be prepared to drive 400+ miles in total wilderness? ho about the second leg (Tok to Anchorage)?
Thank You
Damiano

You'll have Haines Junction, Talbot Arms in Destruction Bay, and a few places in Beaver Creek. Between Port Alcan and Tok there isn't much to see or fill up, you can drive the 8 miles to Northway, but it's a dull drive from the Border to Tok. Fast Eddy's for sure in Tok.

Second leg from Tok, you have Mentasta Pass Lodge...good food. You also have a few others and then Glennallen. From there you have a few lodges on the way to Palmer.

so I won't have to drive over 200 miles between gas stations.. (?) I have a 250miles autonomy, I'm considering bringing an extra emergency gas tank, if necessary

Haines, Alaska to Haines Junction is 149 miles.

Haines Junction to Destruction Bay is 66.4 miles.

Destruction Bay to Beaver Creek, Yukon is 115 miles of bumpy frost heaved highway.

Beaver Creek to Tok is 110 miles of pretty much nothing.

Tok to Glennallen is 139 miles, mostly frost heaved, some new pavement.

Glennallen to Anchorage is 180 miles, some new pavement mostly patches of chip sealed road.

Haines to Tok is doable in about 8 hours. The ferry is efficient in unloading, so you should be able to leave in 5-20 minutes. Motorcycles are usually placed near the front of the boat and get to be first off since they use the doors at the front. Figure you can get to Tok between 6 and 7 pm.
