We are thinking of moving to Anchorage too, but am a bit hesitate cause of the cold up that way. We have alot of research to do, we can double our salary, so that is awesome too. I also wanted to comment on the comparisons here, wow, is all i can say and thanks too.

It's not that cold. We just had a week of 40's and low 50's here on the Peninsula south of Anchorage. We just tell everyone it's real cold and it keeps the population in check!

But don't tell anybody!

ROFL!
Hey Rance: you forgot to mention that when our igloos melt away in the summer we get to build new ones in the fall. Just think: brand-new houses every year...and air conditioning is built-in...we are so lucky!

Can you recommend a good place that does dog-sled conversions? I'll have to convert an F-350 and a Harley when I move up there.

The cold weather cold never keep me away from Alaska. Actually, it would draw me closer to it. I live in the metro Atlanta area and snow is a BIG novelty, as in if you are lucky you might see an inch or tow and get outside quickly before it melts because chances are you will never see it again for at least a year.

It's nice to find snow patches in the mountains when sheep hunting in late August and Sept. It can be 80 degrees and sweltering up in the high country. And you can just plop down on a snow patch and chill out. Even the critters do it.
