Like the previous post says your better off traveling light saving your money for the items you are thinking about moving and purchasing them up here. You can find just about everything you need on Craigslist at way reduced price; for example a set of front load washer and dryer is on Craiglists for $750.00, or even a regular washer and dryer for $100.00 each.

Save your money, have you checked out the rate for a u-haul from your location to Alaska? it's very expensive, you could fly first class a lot cheaper.

We "are" all crazy. It has been a crazy winter! And I for one am ready for spring. I love winter...but I am dang ready to start the garden, mow the lawn, smell the flowers, see baby moose, get some sunburn etc.

Depending on where you cross the border and the mood of the customs people, it can take anywhere from less than five minutes to pass or a half hour of checking all your gear and anything you have packed. Go light, try not to tow anything, less hassle at the crossings.

What we are doing is making an inventory list of the few storage totes we are taking which is less than 5. And we are making 3 copies of each and numbering each tote. For the big items we have which is just a power inverter, woodstove, and generator all of which are new I am writing down serial numbers plus I have sales receipts for them. Now I don't know if that will make any difference at all but I read on one of the traveling across the border sites that it is wise to do. We aren't carrying a bunch of luggage either. And NO food products except maybe a small snack which I may have the car cleaned out before we get to the boarder but we will have a small cooler with drinks. We are taking no type of weapon or knife not even a pocket knife.

I have just about sold everything we have because as they have said it is cheaper to just re-buy it unless you have some high dollar taste and have like a $2000 sofa or something.
And I sure hope our person is in a good mood. I have heard that mornings are better than evenings to cross but then I heard that if you can time it to shift change people just zip you through or if you come around dinner time. I heard that if you come late at night sometimes they are a little more in depth because they get bored when it is so slow, but then I heard they aren't as through because it's late and they don't want to be bothered. So who knows its like waiting to open that big box under the tree. You never know what ya gonna get till that moment comes.

Yeah I realized I need to travel light a while ago, I was just bumping this threat back from the second page to show everyone I'm not stupid.

I don't have much so I'll just be renting a uhaul trailer and take my computers, bed, and dining table with me.

The bed can be used as padding for the computers so it will work out. I could even use the bed to sleep on instead of sleeping in the car.

For the cost of the U-Haul rental from Oklahoma to Alaska, you could buy a trailer and save a lot of money.

Make sure you don't overload it, all the weight in the mountains can be dangerous.

According to the U-Haul website (U-Haul: Your moving and self storage resource for truck rentals, trailers, self storage facilities, and moving supplies) you can rent a 669 cu. ft. 14' truck for $2,699.00 or a 393 cu.ft. 10' truck for $2,499 from Tulsa, OK, to Anchorage, AK. They have no 500 cu. ft. trailers. You can buy a 4' x 8' trailer for less than $1,000.
