Is there any place in Alaska that actually has 30 days of time where it is actually that totally dark? I have had 3 people call me just tonight after they have seen it asking me if Barrow was a real place and a ton of questions.
Yes. Barrow is dark for an extended period of time. So are many other parts of AK, but then it gets lighter and you have very long days without much darkness - only twilight which is very nice! I knew someone who grew up in Barrow... I have never been there myself, but I lived in AK awhile and traveled about there in various areas. Must not have been too bad... I'm looking to go back!

There were a couple of the vampire monster things that were female but the main one was a very strange almost alien looking creature. And they were more monster like than vampire like because they had teeth like Penny Wise did in the movie IT. None of them were all sexy and seductive like in Interview with a Vampire.

well anyway, I enjoy a good throat ripping drooling incoherant zombie action flick. Gets me in the mood for the management meetings the next day.

No part of the movie was filmed in Barrow. Nobody who worked on the movie came to Barrow at any time.

The "3 months of dark" is a myth. It gets light every day. The shortest day has 3 hours of civil twight. What does happen is that for about 67 days the sun doesn't actually come up far enough to be seen. But that doesn't mean it's dark for 24 hours!

But you are exactly correct about it getting colder in the Interior than in Barrow. Barrow has an average temperature that is colder than anywhere else in Alaska; but we rarely ever see the -45F temps that are fairly common in the Interior, and it never gets -60F in Barrow.

Thank you very much for your post Floyd. I was curious as to if it really looked like Barrow or totally made up. Wonder what made them decide that Barrow would be a good place to say their movie was suppose to happen in?
We went to a yard sale back in the summer and a man was selling out and moving to Barrow. He was a high school teacher. About 3-4 months later we were at the flea market and he was there. We asked what he was doing back and I thought his response was so funny I liked to fell out, He said " It was freaking cold up there and I didn't think it would be that cold." How could someone go to Alaska and NOT expect it to be cold??

I knew you guys would educate me on how it if the movie portrayed something that was totally wrong. But I must ask..LOL Do you have any funky vampire like creatures lurking around?

Fantasy meets Reality! Most people live in their own worlds. It's amazing what people think about Alaska! It doesn't seem to matter how well we try to educate people, they won't believe it until they experience it for themselves. This man is not the first teacher to cut and run; I daresay he won't be the last!

Well . . . actually . . . several years ago, there were reports of a pterodactyl-like creature flying around the King Salmon area! Something like five different pilots and some passengers swear they saw something really BIG!
