thanks, Warptman! that's one of the districts that liked my resume (and letter) and sent a 'monster' packet for me to complete. according to their letter, there's an opening by you and one out in the bush. (giggle, it seems so funny for me to say bush [like I'm a native!], when I'm a cheechaka!)

I just stayed in teachers' housing on Newtok. Excellent except for the fact that the shower doesn't work. Incinolet for the toilet, but miles and light years better than the average 5 gallon bucket.

Propane stove, but was out of fuel. But, I have stayed in much worse. The house was actually quite liveable, and when they fix the shower, it would be great.

Well I have arrived safely in Bethel... actually a couple weeks ago. Things are going alright. I about died of sticker shock when I first got here though... that has calmed down some and now I'm just waiting to start work. Its been difficult for me to get used to the daylight. I find that I don't go to bed until around 2 so then I sleep until 11... hopefully soon I'll get that under control too. Now we just need to find a vehicle and get the kids enrolled in school!!

I visit Newtok every month or so. Really neat place, although I've never been in the Teachers' housing. The entire village is slated for relocation by the Corps of Engineers due to coastal erosion. Only in the Bush, I tell you...

Yep, them and Shishmaref are falling into the water. I put in the new house meters in town and had a great time while I was there. But the first 2 nights there, I had 2 separate groups of 5 kids each visiting me. Both nights, I fed them PB&J sandwiches and eventually got them out the door. My boss, a great lady named Clarissa thinks that I'm the Pied Piper because it happens in almost every village.

I was amazed at the fact that they had 2 stores that sold food. Most places have only the one.

We were excited about fishing and hunting but then heard that we have to be here for a year to become a resident and be able to take advantage of those activities. I know my hubby really wants to go fishing and hunting and have a way to get out of town and have some fun! It was kinda icky out today.. can't imagine what it was like on the river!!
