Seattle-based Alaska Airlines will drop their acquisition "Virgin America" name, and the combined airline will remain Alaska Airlines. Nice!

Makes sense to have it all under one name.

Anyone know if new destinations come along with the merger? No international, unfortunately. It's just the domestic Virgin routes.

I wonder when they will finish upgrading their fleet? I've always loved Alaska airlines, partly because I think their staff is more friendly and helpful then say united or American, AND the last couple years the planes have seemed really modern and upgraded with in flight entertainment in every seat etc.

This last time I flew Alaska Airlines to Seattle, it must have been their reject plane because this thing looked straight out of the 80's. Hurry up and upgrade all the interiors, Alaska.

Anyways, I need to get one of those Alaska Airline credit cards. I don't do credit cards, but everyone rants and raves about their miles and yearly companion fares and it makes me jealous.

I also see "miles for sale" on Craigslist all the time, where people are selling their alaska airlines miles for cash. I don't understand how this works, seems sketchy, wouldn't they have to be the one to utilize the miles? Or do they just purchase the tickets for you? Seems more trouble than it's worth as they usually are trying to charge as much as a ticket would be anyways....

The credit card is worth it. We rack the miles up pretty quickly and pay it off monthly. We did a business account and the wife and I both get companion tickets, which pays for two of our kids. However, we've never used them in three years...but this year we are.

Mostly SF and LA flights eastbound. So you are correct. However, these flights (currently) are non-stops where many Delta and United flights are one-stops. I would suppose the pricing will be based accordingly. Very fluid at this point.

I think Virgin America flights will simply put Alaska in a better position to offer better west/east flights. This may not be an advantage in Seattle, but it will offer more connections overall. We could see some Seattle to SF flights that go east, but Alaska already has tons of flights to eastern cities. Again, I think there will be some changes here with this merger, but the airline still is Seattle-based. Perhaps hubs might become more Seattle/San Francisco as opposed to Seattle/Portland. Just a guess.
