Trust me on the huskies here, they're everywhere. Lots of them on the lose, too. My brother has a new black lab last fall, I really wanted to take it home with me. I haven't had a dog in years. The last lab I had was a few years back, I had him for about 13 years and he got sick and had to be put to sleep. Hasn't got the heart to get another one, I put so much work in to Rowdy, he was the best trained and smartest dog I ever had. Maybe when I overcome the loss of him, I'll get another one.

Sorry about your Rowdy. I can't imagine how I'll feel when my little guy is gone,I've had him for over twelve years. Please get another dog, at least someday, it will really help...

Default Huskies......

To me, huskies are ugly dogs.
To me they are essential survivors, in the winter, they can take care of themselves for the most part. However I do admit, as pets, Huskies are not for everyone....First thing that comes out of some ones mouth about huskies is " I love those eyes".....geesh, what about the rest of the dog? I am in a husky rescue in Virginia, and seriously, I try to talk people out of adopting a husky. Unless they are really dedicated to huskies special needs.

I have had Labs too...I think Labs can do more damage chewing up stuff than huskies however.......

In "Crossing Antarctica, Steger's expedition spent 180 days in sub-freezing weather. He wrote another book, North to the Pole, which is just as riveting.

Oh, SeeBee, Slim sends his regards..........

Hike huskies......

A friend of mine has husky eyes, one brown and the other blue. He hates his "Husky" nickname.

Poor guy, Warptman. He's probably really tired of getting comments, but it's pretty cool to other people!

Sunset_va, thanks for the info on the books...I think that's what's so interesting to me about the dogs & the sled races, the self-reliance and independence aspect.

And lovely glam shot, Slim!

Default Just one more book!

SeeBee

One more book , great reading , regardless of the location, is by Dick Proenneke One Man's Wilderness

Not connected with mushing or sledding but a great journal of one man's move to Lake Clark and his day to day life. A must to own also.

Mr. Proenneke passed away in May 2003 if I am correct.

Warptman, many years ago knew this girl that had bicolored eyes, but each eye was two colors!

Default Holistic

Lots of holistic healers read the eyes as indication of a persons health.

I just ended up watching

Insomnia
again...

And sadly the Iditarod Finish banner was removed from the archway at Nome today I think....
