Default Seeking information

Being near ready to make a dream come true, I'm ready to start researching
the different areas of AK. Came across this site and hope some of you
can give me some ideas.
I'd like to be in an area that does get lot's of snow and yet has clear nights
for light watching. Preferring mountains or a valley among mountains
verses flatland. And preferring trees. Small community (500 or below)
Being within an hour drive of one of the major cities
(Anchorage, Fairbanks or Wasilla) Good hunting and fishing.
Any suggestions on areas to look into?

I saw the Aurora quite often when I lived in the Susitna Valley. There are lots of trees and quite a bit of snow, and mountains all around.

Up the Parks highway to Fairbanks and around towards North Pole there are several places that fit your dream. You need to come up and see for yourself what fits.

Default snow ??

Valdez Alaska gets more snow than any other place in the entire state.

Thompson pass outside of valdez is breath-taking to behold.

there are so many places in this vast state that fall into what you seem to be looking for. Mountains. they are all over this state. climbing to unheard of heights.

What is the Largest mountain in the world ? Denali. the great one Mt. Mckinley or Denali depending on who you ask.

If and when you arrive in Alaska. do yourself a favor. and take a ride in a car.

start from anchorage and go up to Fairbanks through palmer and sutton, glenallen and on up to Fairbanks. This is the right side of the letter A

Once you reach Fairbanks come back down on the othere road, this is the left side of the letter A half way down (perhaps) you will be able to cross over though denali that is the horizontal portion of the A

You are going to see things / scenery that will make your eyes pop out of your head. I have made this trip countless numbers of times and I just gasp each and every time I make this trip.

Valdez is nicknamed "little Switzerland" because the mountains that surround this quaint wonderful tiny city resemble the swiss alps very closely.

The waterfalls just outside of town, will amaze and astound you. Everyplace you go and travel to in this state has many unique features. Perhaps the most spcatacular place I have ever viewed just has to be Majestic Valley, two or more hours past Palmer going up towards Glenallen.

good luck in your quest to find the "right place" !!

don't forget to read the fine print !!

Warning: if you really want to know what snow feels like, take a ride during the winter months, maybe January. Be aware that the snow looks beautiful and gives you a warm feeling when you watch it fall from a warm place, but believe me when I tell you that 15 minutes outside (around Fairbanks), will send you packing right back inside the house Now, it's beautiful during the summer and Fall.
