About $10K trip?

You forgot to add (or I forgot to mention ) they will also be towing their car behind them

AND they are going to try to avoid motels hotels etc because 1) the cats and 2) to save money. They are hoping to find places to crash along the way. I am already searching Amazon to send them a tent as a going away gift

This is hard for me to fathom too, but again, if this is what they want, I want to help them and be as supportive as possible. I have told my brother that I think it's going to be extremely difficult. But they are determined.

They were cautioned not to drive across the US because of the high likelihood of road closures. Their proposed route takes them entering Canada near Portal, ND?

A truck, a trailer, AND a car? Or, by "trailer" you meant the car?

Anyway, google Alaska ferries, there are prices for vehicles (depending on their length), price per each person, each trailer etc.

I hope they both have passports and that the passports aren't expiring soon if they are going through Canada.

Well , if they're determined, they might find a way to make it work. I've been around POW most of my life, and I've seen plenty of people think it was going to be something it isn't, though, so yeah, I'm skeptical.

Housing is going to be a big issue. I may have a house coming up for rent, but four cats is off the table. They should start networking for permanent housing as soon as they hit the island. It may be easier for them to buy. Just an FYI -- if they try to misrepresent the number of animals they have in order to secure housing, it won't work out well for them. There are no secrets on POW.

I agree with Stiff about barging their belongings rather than doing this U-Haul thing.

I can't stress enough that they won't be getting over the border with their cats if they don't have a recent health certificate for each one.

What town are they going to be in?
