Cordovan is on a distinguished road
The passport thing has a new twist: Even if you live in Alaska and are traveling by road east to Haines, or ports beyond such as Juneau, you will need a passport, because you must leave Alaska, thru Canada, back in to Alaska to Haines and ferries. At least that is what I was told by a couple of Alaskans planning a road trip from Valdez to Juneau.

To eliminate any confusion, delays or denials at border crossings...I think it would be wise to just get a passport.

Boarder Agents can be moody. If they're having a bad day, they'll take it out on you and search everything you have or you'll be there for as little as five minutes.

If it were me, I would get the passport. I got mine when I was traveling back'n'forth to the UK. I now use it as my main ID when needed. You can't beat a passport for identification.

Last year I met a couple from Texas (very nice folks , by the way...) and they commented on how nice Juneau was, etc, but then started as usual about Texas. She said they we considering going to Anchorage and I told them "No worries, it's about 1000 miles that-a-way (pointing north). And then you're only about a third of the way thru the state".

Oh yes, that would be great, I can see it now "king murkowski." There has been a group around for a few decades trying to seperate Alaska from the union, it has gathered very little steam along the way. It's a fairytale at best and will never happen for thousands of reasons.
