About 3 years ago while traveling in AK, our tour guide told us about an ice structure that was placed on the frozen Tanana river at Nenana. Then each spring the people of AK would guess (or wager) when the structure would break through as the ice melted in the spring thus marking the unofficial beginning of Spring in AK. Does anyone have any additional info on this or where I can log on to see what date this happened in years past (and this year if it has happened already).
