Want to work on the North Slope, however....
I don't have any skills related to the primary work up there, skills in the petro industry.
However, I have 4 years of college and also have worked for an airline for 12 years (some time on the ramp, so I can do blue collar work if I have to). Most of my work experience has been in the airline or travel industry.
I knew this one gal who got a job up there as a cashier and proably got paid 14 bucks an hour with her housing paid for. How can I get a job like that on the slope, where I can pocket a bunch of money away and just work, work work and come back after say, 1 year. Just wondering if there is a network that I can contact for jobs that are more or less in general labor that pay housing.
I know that in Southwestern Alaska, there are jobs that pay housing working in the fishing factories, however, I will not work for 8 bucks an hour (that all the one I saw advertised paid).
Any pointers? Thanks.

I think most of the jobs you are asking about are reserved for ALASKA residents. Most companies will not usually talk to you until after you have established your one full of year of Alaska residency. The days of the carpetbaggers coming in and taking the money and running back home are over.
I hear that Southwest Airlines in Dallas is in desperate need of ramp service agents. You might want to try down here. Good luck.

I don't think you're going to get many helpful answers here. You see, we're a little tired of you people from the minus forty eight posting here and asking how you can make a pocketful of money in a short time.
You want some pointers? Try to make it where you're at and stop looking at my home as somewhere for you to take from.

Cashiers on the slope? About the only place that would have one of those is the Brooks Range Store in Deadhorse. Or maybe the Prudhoe Bay Hotel. The public is only limited access to Deadhorse area. We are talking a total 2 block radius. 2 ragtag hotels and a small store.
Alaska Airlines has a small facility/airport in Deadhorse. But since there are really no "residents" that live here year round (except the store owners) there really is no one buying tickets from this location.
You'd be better off trying to get on as a laborer or truck driver or going to school for petroleum engineering and getting work related to that.

That one statement right there will prevent you from getting any extremely high paying job anywhere in Alaska, that is unless you have 10 or more years experiance as an engineer or a rig hand.
But you asked for pointers, so here's one.
Most, if not all newbies fail here because they bring their lower-48 debt load with them.

Many of the local employers will file a resume in the round file (trash can) with that sort of attitude anyway.

Where are the mods when you need them?
A couple of the responses on here were classless.

I for one am not going to put forth any effort to assist an outsider in coming up here, getting a job on the slope, just so they can make a fist full of money to take out of the state. Now if an individual wants to move here, settle in and become part of a community and a resident of this fine state...I'd give them the shirt off my back. I'd just as soon see a local get the work. We have plenty of residents here that are in need of work.

Might seem classless to you. But in reality we have to listen to this stuff on an almost daily basis. People wanting to come here, get rich, and then leave contributing nothing to this state. Only here to make a buck and spend it back home. Why not consider living here and working? Why would you want to come here, take a job that a local could use, then take all your earnings and leave to spend it in another state? Maybe you don't see the issue with this...but those of us that live here deal with this every day. There are 1 or 2 people that come to this forum every other day inquiring about work...yet have no intention of staying here or contributing back to the state they want so much from. Most employers up here on the slope will hire locals first...and out of staters as a last resort.
