Well looks like I am going to make a life change and move to Soldotna for an awesome job opportunity. I lived in Anchorage as a kid and came back last summer to check Soldotna out. My question is about the school system there, High School in particular, I have an 8th grader and a 10 grader--any input? Thanks in advance.

You've got your SOHI and you've got your Skyview highschools. SOHI is in town...the other is south of town a couple miles. I didn't attend either one but one of my son's attend sohi, the other attended the other. I can't say weather either is better than the other.

Congrats on the new job!!
Well I went to SoHi and our class was the last one before they opened SkyView. We won't say how many years ago THAT was but I have an son in 8th grade. My personal experience (and a few friends think the same) you lucked out not having to put them in Soldotna Middle school. That being said they will tell YOU where they will go to school by your street address. We built a new house in town last winter and the district would not let me enroll my daughter in Readout even thou we were going to be in that "zone" before Christmas. We actually live like 2 blocks from the school now. So she had to move schools abruptly which I did not like. I tried to explain she had been moved a lot and I would be willing to drive her and everything. No way. They were actually kinda rude and uncaring, I thought but maybe that's just me. So much for being honest, I should have just put down a friends address. So as far as schools go my neighbor's boy has friends from both and I will ask him. (I don't have a choice where mine goes) But the Jr High receptionest did tell me that the 2 high schools do have different classes avalible. For example I am pretty sure it was Auto Shop that SoHi has avalible and Skyview does not offer. I found that interesting. I thought they would have the same classes but they don't. I am not sure if class information is avalible online or not. I would call the district if the kids have specific things they are interested in doing. Good Luck and Welcome in advance! |

Thanks for your replies. I did take the job! My 8th grader is not considered middle school? Do they have separate Jr high schools there?
