Anyone know much about it? I might have a chance to work there this summer, and I'm curious about the location, but google didn't tell me too much. I know it's in the Gulf of Alaska, about 50 miles out from Cordova, it's quite small and very remote

Middleton Island is where the National Weather Service has a Nexrad Radar for South Central Alaska. Not much else there.

LOL that was my very first thought when I saw the title warptman, "hey isn't that the weather radar place?"
I don't think there's anything there really... I will have to ask my husband when he gets home. |

I know it is an intersection for aircraft arriving, and aircraft departing Anchorage.

What does your summer job entail?

Seabird research. I got some more info from the project leader and indeed, there's nothing there but a few FAA buildings, an abandoned Air Force base, and some weather monitoring equipment. The work sounds plenty interesting, though

FAA has both an NDB and a VORDME there. (Navigation Aids). Also you should find lots of rabbits and maybe some clams. Don't know what birds you'll be studying but have fun. Really heavy Helly Hanson rubberized nylon raingear will be a plus for you. About a $100 dollars each for pants and coat. Don't skimp on it, the rain will probably blow straight through Goretex. I learned a long time ago on Adak not to depend on it (Goretex). I spent ten years working in the field up here and always wore it then and still do. It'll last for years if you take care of it. I am a relative new comer to Alaska having been here for only 28 years.
