Thanks for the info everyone. Eagle River really seem like a cool place to live. Is there a very strong military feel to the area or is it pretty normal? Is it a liberal or conservative feel to the community? Thanks!

When we lived there it had lots of military home owners, it's convienant to both Elmendorf and Ft. Richardson. Of course since it's fairly expensive, you're mostly talking about officers and senior enlisted.
Like most areas of AK, there are folks from all points of the compass regarding politics but generally speaking Eagle River was considered a strongly Republican area, vote-wise. One more thing to keep in mind, if you check out the state's sex-offender website the stats for Eagle River will seem sky-high. Burrow a bit further and you'll find that most of them have the same address. Makes sense, since there's a prison right off the Glen highway as you come into town. It's buried in the trees so deep you'd never find it without the signs. |
