People who believe anything that comes out of a political candidate's mouth need to be reminded of the old saw "There's a sucker born every minute."

No, P.T. Barnum did not say this, even though he did get a kick out of messing with the gullible.

I won't believe the $6,000+ PFD until I see it deposited in my account. Still was worth taking the shot though as the other guy was going to take half of it right off the bat and implement taxes. A majority of Alaskans who bothered to vote agreed and Dunleavy is our new governor.

I've heard some complaining that Dunleavy's PFD back pay plan will bankrupt the state and fund, but I bet that those same people will still apply for it when the time comes. They are always more than welcome not to apply for the PFD if they feel so strongly against it, but for some reason I doubt that will happen.

Alaskans always seem to vote for whoever promises them the bigger check and swears not to "implement taxes."

I haven't applied for the thing for years (though I gave up my residency last year). Nonetheless, those who whose votes weren't bought with a big check have every right to cash in while the money's still there.

I think "the check" should have been phased out years ago. A friend of mine introduced a bill into the legislature years ago that would have provided a one-time payout for all residents, and the amount (for that time) was large enough so that recipients could actually do something with the money, and it would have stopped this tacky business of parents spending their children's checks.

And wait for it-- another wave of end-of-the-roaders dragging up to Alaska with carfuls of kids because they heard the new governor's giving out yet even more free money. Within a year, these same people will be talking about "the check" as if it's their birthright.

Anyway, OP, I take it that's you standing next to the big guy in the Wasilla Fred Meyer?

https://www.adn.com/politics/2018/11...und-dividends/

$3733 would be the amount just in the repayment for the 2016, 2017, 2018 divended cap.

"Q:*Someone was saying that the*PFD*might come in land as opposed to cash?

Dunleavy:*"My goal is that the PFD is paid in cash. We are working on some ideas regarding land. We have 100 million acres of land, very little of it's in private hands. We've got to make a decision as a state as to what we want to do with our own state land."

Q:*That would be separate from the PFD?

Dunleavy:*"Yeah, and you'll see things rolled out on land as well." "

It sounds like maybe we'll have an opportunity to buy some more state land as well. This guy is refreshing.

Well, I've never been to Alaska, yet, but I just found out the new Governor of Alaska was born in my hometown of Scranton, PA, which I thought was pretty cool, I would like to wish him the best of luck and that short guy standing next to him!

In case anyone is interested, the new governor is 6'7" tall, and that's the best thing I can say for him to date.

And don't confuse him with either Mike Dunleavy Senior or Junior of NBA notoriety. Dunleavy Sr. is a shorty at 6'3', but his son is 6'9".
